An entrance hall of a hotel is always grand. After all, this is their chance to create a first impression, and you need it to be a good one. You can easily recreate this in your home without spending too much money. Mirrors will instantly open up the area if it is small, and if you are lucky enough to have a larger area, try guiding your visitors towards a large centrepiece. This could be a table, a chair or a large vase of flowers. This will give the impression that the rest of your home is also like this.

2. Well Positioned Lighting

You never walk into a luxury hotel to find that it is dark and gloomy. This would give the impression that it is gloomy; not deluxe, so keep this going throughout your home as well. Consider investing in some chandeliers, side lamps, as well as mood lighting, so every part of your home can be lit up. Consider installing dimmer switches in your home, for easy mood lighting. Avoid anything that is too matchy matchy as well. Think sophisticated glamour for that luxurious feel.

3. Lavish Bedroom

This one is an obvious one. The whole purpose of a hotel is to give you somewhere to stay overnight. Therefore, you would expect a luxury hotel to have a luxurious bedroom. So, make sure your bedroom is the talking point of your home. Your bed should be taking centre stage, with fluffy pillows and billowing duvets. Always ensure that your bed is made with matching bedding. For try luxury, Egyptian cotton sheets are a winner.

4. Spa Bathroom

A lot of focus is also placed on the bathroom in a luxury hotel. Think about what you would expect from a luxury hotel bathroom and replicate this in your home. For example, if your budget is a little bigger, consider have a Jacuzzi style bath fitted for the ultimate relaxation experience. Do not forget the little things as well though. Line up some candles around the bath, and do not scrimp on the towels. These should be thick and fluffy and engulf you when you emerge from the bath or shower. Mosaics are particularly well suited to spa bathrooms.

5. De-clutter Your Home

This is an excellent one as it will not cost you anything. You never walk into a hotel and find that that it is cluttered. Use this as an opportunity to clear your home of all unnecessary belongings. Think about unusual storage systems to try and clear as much space as you possibly can. Let as much light into the property as you can, which in turn will help make the area feel larger. This is particularly useful and apparent if you have a small home as it really will make a huge difference.

6. Get the Temperature right

It is rare when hotels do not get the temperature right. It is never too hot or too cold. Hotels have to account for personal tastes within their rooms, so each room will have their own climate control. Consider installing a programmable thermostat that has been designed to read temperatures and automatically mimic them, so your home should always be at the perfect temperature for you and your guests. Consider adding blinds and fans too for that extra breeze in the warm, summer months.

7. Invest in Matching Furniture

Right, we are not talking about matching accessories here, just furniture. Mis-matched furniture looks like it has been thrown together and does not give the impression that a lot of thought and planning has gone into your home. Luxury hotels will always have a smooth style running throughout that has taken a lot of planning, and this should be seen in your home to get the same effect. Ensure that all tables, chairs, sofas and wardrobes etc. are matching for a well put together look.

8. Add Flowers

We have already previously mentioned including flowers in your hallway, but do not stop there. Add flowers to every room of your home to make it look inviting and bright. If you have a plainer theme throughout your home, such as monochrome, or a white theme it is a very effective way of bringing some colour into your home without it being overpowering. Just make sure these are replaced when they are starting to wilt and die, otherwise it could have the opposite effect!

9. Invest in Good Quality Curtains

You will find that in luxury hotels they have good quality black out curtains to allow their guests to have a good night sleep without being woken up by the sun shining through. If you ever have guests staying, they will be appreciative of the good night sleep that they have had in your home.

10. Keep it Clean & Tidy

There is little point transforming your home if you are not going to maintain it. Make sure your home is always ready for visitors even if you are not due any. You wouldn’t like to stay in a dirty hotel room just because the owners had neglected their cleaning duties, especially if you were paying over the odds for the privilege. When cleaning ask yourselves if you would pay to stay here? If no, think about how you could change this.
