Quartz as You Have Never Seen it Before

At Tilesporcelain we are always interested to see how our customers have put their tiles to use. There have been some truly memorable designs over the years and we’re proud to have supplied for such a diverse range of projects. So when we discovered that stone artist Matthew Ollier was going to use our Quartz as part of his work we were intrigued to see what the finished designs looked like. All we can say is that we were completely amazed by the way in which he’s transformed these sparkly tiles into a series of 21st century masterpieces. Featuring superstars like David Beckham and Angelina Jolie as well as a self portrait of the artist himself, we believe it won’t be long until Matthew is also a household name.

These designs have been created through grinding and sculpting quartz to produce the incredible effect. The precision and detail is quite amazing and it’s no surprise that the David Beckham piece alone took Matthew around two and a half months to complete.

When speaking about his choice of materials he said: “There has been no painting involved, the pieces you see have been created 100% from stone.”

“I’ve worked with granite since I was a kid but quartz is now my favourite material because of its sparkle and the way it is emphasised by light.

“It’s also quite lightweight and easier to work with than other stones with a greater density.”

He also explained why many of us have never seen anything quite like this before: “Nobody else in the world is currently producing art in this way so it’s very unique.”

The good news is he is planning even more designs to be released in 2015:

“I have more upcoming projects planned and I’m looking forward to starting on them.

“I’ll be using the same techniques and materials but have already got some fresh ideas about the direction I’d like to go in.”
