What Is The Best Tile For The Kitchen?

The kitchen, it’s kind of the hub for your home. If you’re going to have company around or are planning a party, the first place they will most likely go in is the kitchen and then as the night progresses the lounge/living room, but I digress.

When you go to design a new kitchen, there are a few things you’re going to want to keep in mind. The first one is, colour - what colour would best suit you and your home? Another is what tiles you’re going to use and that’s exactly what we’re looking into today.

For a new kitchen, you’re going to have to choose the best wall tiles and floor tiles that will fit in with your home. This is a crucial step that can’t be overlooked as it’s basically the most important aspect! For your walls, they’ll protect all the work areas you use, including behind the hob as well as the splashback. For the flooring, they ideally need to be easy to clean, comfy and tough.

Perhaps the most important feature is the aesthetic but don’t just get a cheap alternative! This can lead to worse issues later down the line.

You’ve got plenty of options to choose from, so don’t worry about only having a few tiles to pick from. There are natural stone tiles, manmade tiles and many more. These two specific types of tiles make for a functional and unique wall/floor covering so there definitely worth considering.

Here are just some of the tiles you can choose for your brand new kitchen design.

Choosing the Material

Before we get into it, let’s discuss the materials you have to play with.

Manmade tiles are probably the cost-effective option you have and they’re also really easy to look after. You will have a range of different designs to hand, whether it’s plain or patterned, the choice is nearly endless.

Then there’s the option of natural stone which is a bit more on the pricey side but it’s an option like no other. Plus, they have stricter care requirements than the former but if you keep them in check, the results are glamorous.

Manmade

Before we start talking about natural stone tiles though, let’s get into the manmade options for your kitchen.

The choice you have here is great and one that shouldn’t be overlooked. For both, feel, colours and aesthetic, you have a range of choices from ceramic, porcelain, glass and so on, which are all worth considering for your new design overhaul.

It really all comes down to personal taste and what kind of finish you’re going for so let’s take a look at the options.

Ceramic tiles are your most affordable option and the most basic kind of tile you can get which is both a good thing and a bad thing, we’ll let you decide on that. On top of this, they are great for walls, we wouldn’t recommend them for your floor, but it’s not unheard of for ceramic to be used under your feet. When you’re buying tiles for your floor, make sure you’re purchasing the right kind because a wall tile installed on the floor won’t be able to keep up with the constant battering of the human foot and weight. Often featured in mosaics, glass tiles are a safe option but are available in a wide range of other kinds of wall tile styles too. Not only will they add that extra sparkle to your kitchen but with the different multicoloured mosaics on offer, they can be a pretty good focal point.

When it comes to porcelain, these tiles are fired at a higher temperature than ceramic and are high in density which can make them pretty hard-wearing which makes them a good option for flooring but don’t let that restrict you as walls are still an option.

Last but certainly not least are matt tiles. These have a slick flat finish which looks less prominent than a light-catching glossy tile but trust me, they’re good. Rather than showing off with big colours and reflections, matt tiles are a subtly yet sleek way of having your kitchen. They aren’t perfect though as you will need to put in a bit more time for cleaning with matt.

Natural Stone

There are also an array of natural stone tiles to choose from. We’re talking about marble, limestone, slate and so on for your kitchen walls & floors. For the natural stone option, you’re going to need to seal it and protect it but don’t forget that it needs to be cleaned with products designed for the stone.

Slate Tiles in a Kitchen

Talking about marble, you’re going to be looking at greys and whites but there are some strikingly dark and coloured shades too. This can be seen as subtle to some but dramatic by others, it’s all down to personal taste. Polished marble on the floor is going to be a slip hazard though so maybe leave it for the walls.

Another popular option is limestone which is widely available. Different colours such as beige, cream and grey are what you’re looking at and it can be used for a range of different looks/styles. The stone is hard-wearing so you’re best using it on the floor.

Slate tiles are your next choice. Its texture can boost grip at a floor level but when used on the wall, there is an extra factor of eye-grabbing.
No matter what type of style you choose to go with, we’re sure it will look great. Don’t forget that all these tiles and more are available on Tilesporcelain for great prices!

If you’re a competent DIY enthusiast then re-doing your kitchen should be a walk in the park. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a long job so be prepared to go back to the stone age for a few weeks whilst it’s done, especially if you’re completely gutting the hub of your home.
